About Us
Augvents promotes the arts, artists, and their venues to make it easier for patrons to find and reward artistic talent while supporting their favorite places — especially the great good places — offering platforms for presentations and performances.
By creating a social media technology that encourages participation in the arts, we believe the arts economy will grow, artists nurtured, venues strengthened, and, more broadly, society and culture nourished.
People are drawn to social media, assuming it will provide communication, intimacy, friendships, and community. Unfortunately, social and behavioral science evidence suggests the opposite is true. (1) Rather than strengthening friendship ties and creating a sense of belonging, heavy use of social media appears to foster loneliness and social isolation. (2)
AUGVENTS’ technology addresses the relationship between social media use and loneliness by designing a solution to encourage face-to-face interaction. The technology highlights local art events and their location and encourages participation, fostering a richer experience of personal interaction, communication, and sharing.
Along with promoting social interaction and a sense of belonging, AUGVENTS’ support for creative places helps form vital building blocks for public placemaking and the enrichment of local communities.
